This startling BBC production remains as bloodcurdling as when it first aired during 1967’s so-called “Summer of Love” from June 9 to July 14, airing at 7 p.m.

The dramatisation is credited to John Manship White from H.G. Well's famous novel, although the script was based on his now lost 1950 version set in the Victorian Age. The action is updated to a contemporary setting and stars Paul Daneman as John Nicholson.

The music is by David Cain featuring symphonic incidental music from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. It was produced by John Powell.

Running time is 3 hours on 3 discs.

Episodes:
"The Red Planet"
"The First Deaths"
"The Fighting Machines"
"The Black Smoke"
"The Red Weed"
"Conclusion"
